Entering rationales for an item
 
After authoring the content of an item, you must enter rationales for each of them. The stem/stimulus rationale provides an explanation for the inclusion of that particular exam question in an exam, while answer choice rationales provide reasons why each of the choices is being offered to the exam taker for that particular question.
 
To enter rationales for an item:
 
Note: The following shows the rationale tab of a single selection multiple choice item (SSMC). Screens may look different for likert, multiple selection multiple choice items (MSMC), hotspot items, survey items, and static items.
 
1. Navigate to the Rationale tab (highlighted in green, below):
 
 
2. Enter the rationale for the item in the Item Rationale field, and then enter rationales for each of the item's answer choices in the Answer Choice Rationale fields. When entering item rationales, you can format and spell check text, plus add tables, images, and symbols. In the example below, the user has entered all rationales:

4. Click the Save button to save all changes.
