Editing references for an item
 
If you are authorized, you may edit the references for an item. References may consist of either approved library references or reference notes (which the reference librarian may later use to create a new, approved reference).  
 
Notes:
1. Click here for full instructions on assigning references to an item.
2. The following shows references for a single selection multiple choice item (SSMC). Screens may look different for likert, multiple selection multiple choice items (MSMC), and hotspot items.
 
To edit the references for an item:
 
 
2. Navigate to the item's References tab (highlighted in green, below). In the example below, the item has two existing references: a Reference Note (highlighted in red, below), and an Approved Reference (highlighted in blue, below).
 
 
To edit an assigned approved reference:
 
1. Click the Edit button for the approved reference you wish to edit (note: you may also click the Delete button to delete the reference). The reference will appear in the top half of the Reference tab:
 
 
2. To clear all data for this reference, click the Cancel Reference button, then follow all confirmation prompts.
 
3. Otherwise, edit the reference by choosing a new one from the Reference dropdown list. You can view the details for this reference by clicking the View Details button next to the reference to open the Reference Detail screen:
 
 
To add custom citation(s) to the reference, click the binoculars button next to the Citation field, and enter the citation(s) in the Value field(s) of the Enter Citation dialog box (shown below), then click the Close button.
 
 
4. Click the Update Reference button.
 
5. At this point, you may assign new references to the item.
 
6. Click the Save button to save all changes.
 
To edit an assigned reference note, which the reference librarian may later use to create a new, approved reference:
 
1. Click the Edit button for the reference note you wish to edit (note: you may also click the Delete button to delete the reference). The reference will appear in the top half of the Reference tab:
 
 
2. To clear all data for this reference note, click the Cancel Reference button, then follow all confirmation prompts.
 
3. Otherwise, edit the existing notes in the Notes field.
 
4. To add/change attachments for the note, click the binoculars button, browse the local or network drive to find the desired file (.jpg, .gif, .png, .bmp, and .pdf files only), then click the Open button:
 
 
5. Click the Update Reference button.
 
6. At this point, you may assign new references to the item.
 
7. Click the Save button to save all changes.
