Managing the reference library

Pro! keeps a library of references to literature maintained by authorized users called reference librarians. Item writers and reviewers use the referenced works by linking a new item to a library reference, thus confirming the item's validity.

References in the library can include textbooks, agency regulations, professional standards, laws/regulations, and periodicals. In addition to a title, each reference contains core information such as the International Standard Book Number (ISBN), author, publisher, edition, copyright year, and any additional comments.

The reference librarian may also create custom citation information, which the item writer must supply in order to link an item to a reference. For example, the librarian might want to require item writer to supply page numbers when referencing a particular textbook. The librarian creates the entry for the textbook and specifies that the item author must supply the page number(s).

When creating a new item or editing an existing item, you can either link the item to an existing library reference, or provide reference notes about a new reference (which the librarian may later convert to an approved reference).
